The College

The institution was established in 1984 with the name Government Degree College Sitapur by former state Government of Madhya Pradesh. Academically affiliated to Guru Ghasidas state University Bilaspur, under graduate programme B.A. and B.Com. commenced in old primary school building Sitapur. With the theme of personality development through social service NSS unit started in 1986-87. After 6 years survival in share to the school building, in session 1990-91 finally shifted to own campus allotted land space of 4.384 hectares. Awaited demand of the UG programme in science and PG in Sociology approved and affiliated in 1996. To encourage students to national service NCC unit (Army Wings) came into its shape in 1996-97. Master of Arts (Hindi) started in 2001 just after the newly established Chhattisgarh state. In 2008 affiliated to Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya Surguja Ambikapur. The institution got new name Govt. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College Sitapur by official order letter no. F-5-65/2007/38 Raipur date 14.05.2008 of Higher Education Department Chhattisgarh, affiliating university updated same through notification no.259/academic/2014/Ambikapur date 24/01/2014. Change in the name of the college under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, 1956 has been made in the list of colleges through File no. 8-75/2010 (CPP-I/C) May, 2014 by UGC. UGC college code is 201017 and AISHE code is C-9745. To fulfil continuing demand of commencing PG programmes, in 2013-14 M.A. Political Science, M.A. Economics, Mater of Commerce and M.Sc. Chemistry has been started in existent premises and building on the basis of self-financing under the supervision of local Janbhagidari Samiti of the institution. At present the institution offering 03 UG and 06 PG programmes with integrated 1980 sanctioned intake capacity.

The institution is located at village Amatoli tehsil Sitapur district Surguja Chhattisgarh, letter no.26/A.Vi.A./2014, date 03/12/2014, office of the Sub division officer revenue Sitapur, Surguja (C.G.) official certifies that it is Schedule Tribal and educationally backward area. Sitapur is about 65 K.M. far towards Pathalgaon on NH 43 from district headquarter Ambikapur. The people of villages of circumference of about 70 K.M are majority stockholders of the institution.

The institution has institutional and departmental library with compendium of more than 30000 books. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology Laboratories having experimental equipment, chemical, specimen etc. for learning through experiment. Adequate available space and sports facility for football, volleyball, khokho, kabaddi, badminton, athletics etc. are potential of the institution along with cycle stand, vehicle stand, canteen, garden, clean and green campus, RO drinking water cooler, fire safety extinguisher cylinder, computer and internet facility.

For imparting holistic development in all dimension to students 27 teaching and 14 non-teaching competent, dynamic faculties are engaged. The institution undertakes variety of extension activities and extra curriculum through NSS unit volunteers, NCC cadets, YRC volunteers. Moreover, the institutional IQAC, staff council, Janbhagidari Samiti, anti-ragging committee, ST/SC cell, OBC cell, minority cell, alumni association, teacher-parent association, prevention of sexual harassment cell, cultural committee work tirelessly as facilitators to make students responsible, creative, social, success.
